EyeC

What is EyeC?

EyeC is a simple piece of webcam software with security and home monitoring applications. Upon detecting a face, eyeC sends a photo to the user’s phone via MMS. For example, if one installs a webcam on a front door and runs eyeC on a computer connected to the webcam, eyeC will detect any visitor’s face and snap a photo. The user will receive a text message with the captured image. EyeC can easily be setup on older and newer computers and webcams, and is far cheaper than proprietary home security systems. These qualities are what make eyeC so valuable.

Origin

EyeC was originally created at a local hackathon within 24 hours. I, along with my two partners, Daniel Yoo and Christian Cosgrove, put it together using OpenCV, Twilio, C#, and HTML. Our project won us the award for Best Startup at the hackathon, and our prize for winning was a chance to attend New York Tech Day to display our work, where eyeC was seen by hundreds of people. While at NYTechDay, one of the many people who viewed eyeC gave us another opportunity to display our work, at the Small Business Development Center in br /ooklyn. There, we spoke with small business consultants and military personnel who were looking for technologically-adept people who could create something that could potentially be used in military activities. After Tech Day and the SBDC, my partners and I entered eyeC into a local competition resembling the TV show "Shark Tank." After presenting our idea to the judges, we were lucky enough to win 1st place out of the other 10 finalists, and the other 30-40 submissions.
